Maria heads the Energy and Environment and Natural Resources Practices. She is an Εnergy and Εnvironmental lawyer, with a strong track-record in transaction law, complemented by an economics background.

Maria’s energy practice primarily focuses on electricity including renewables, storage, electricity markets and offtake. She also specializes in emerging clean technologies, as well as natural gas and power and gas infrastructure and grids. She has significant experience in advising investors, energy companies, buyers, developers and public-sector entities in energy project development and privatizations, and in conducting due diligence for such projects. She also provides advice on complex energy regulatory matters and provides legal support in energy-related transactions and financing. In the past, Maria also had a secondment at a multinational energy company, where she provided in-house legal support on a wide range of regulatory and compliance matters.

Maria’s environmental practice covers regulatory as well as transactional aspects of natural resource management, as well as of ESG compliance for corporates and legal support during the permitting process of a diverse range of projects, such as energy projects, hotels, transportation, privatizations, ports and marinas, and land uses. Her expertise also extends to industrial environmental liability, waste management, circular economy technologies, as well as biodiversity, sustainability, and climate law.

Prior to joining Platis – Anastassiadis & Associates Law Partnership in 2022, Maria practiced energy and environmental law with top-tier law firms in Athens. She has been a member of the Athens Bar since 2008.

Maria holds a Law Degree and a Postgraduate Diploma in Civil Law from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Additionally, she holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Law & Economics from the same university. She is a scholar of the Academy of Athens.
